Steven asks…
Is the cholesterol in shrimp the good or bad cholesterol?
I’ve noticed that shrimp is really low in calories and fat, but high in cholesterol. Is it the good or bad kind?
admin answers:
It is the bad kind (LDL). But truth be told, cholestrol is necessary for your body. It is the excess that we should worry about.
Dietary sources need not necessarily increase LDL in your body. Moderations is the key. Avoiding shell fish of all kinds is not the answer but eating less of it to not to injest a lot to your system is prudent.
Cholestrol is processed in your bile. It is also the carrier of all kinds of nutrients and other important harmones and various essential chemicals produced by the body.

How do I get rid of the bad cholesterol that is starting and a grown blister on my eyelids?
If bad cholesterol will be eliminated then my eyelid blister will follow or I need to have in and out medication.I used not to take medicine if necessary give me prescription using natural medicine such a fruits, vegetable (cuchini or tomato place on top of the eyelids), etc.
admin answers:
I have not found any resources that indicate placing zucchini or tomatoes on the eyes will help draw out cholesterol deposits (xanthomas). The cause of Xanthomas is not known, it is not considered to be harmful, and does correlate with elevated cholesterol levels. In the case of eruptive xanthomas it is suggested to be seen by a physician promptly.

This is a list of botanicals that may help with elevated cholesterol levels:
Artichoke, bitter melon, boldo, velvet bean, chanca piedra, guava, carqueja, yerba mate, suma, sarsaparilla, vassourinha, maca, cat’s claw, annatto, acerola, andiroba

Most alternative/complementary medicinal sites contain disclaimers. Research the indications and contraindications before using.

Ken asks…
Is coffee mate increases the bad cholesterol? If it is then what we can use to make coffee taste good?
I went to nutritionist and she told me that coffee mate I put in coffee for good taste in place of milk actually increases bad cholesterol and for a diabetic person is very bad. I tried using milk but the taste really was awful. I need to know which thing we can use in coffee to make its taste good and same time it should not increase your bad cholesterol?
admin answers:
Hi Amir,
This is a tough one. According to the packaging it has no cholesterol in it but – FDA rules allow manufactures to put 0% on the label if any ingredient or component is less than 1 gram so there could be a nominal amount.
These coffee creamers are what I refer to as plastic food. They just don’t have any nutritional value and are made mostly of chemically altered products and additives. The powdered product can last for decades. Read the ingredients. You may think twice about using it. As a diabetic be aware that sugar and corn syrup are components of these creamers.
I just can’t think of a substitute that is “real food”. I think that if your daily intake will allow it you would be better off just using brown sugar and skim milk.
Best of luck.

Is peanut butter good or bad for cholesterol?
I love peanut butter but don’t eat it because it looks like it’s high in total fat and saturated fat. Lately I’ve seen contradictory things on the internet…some saying peanut butter is mostly unsaturated fat and actually lowers bad cholesterol…others saying that peanut butter is high in fat and therefore bad for cholesterol. Can anyone give me a definite answer or point me to a definitive source? Thank you in advance!
admin answers:
Unless your like a peanut butter junkie, it wont really do much, yes it has saturated fat in it but it’s also healthy so a peanut butter sandwich every now and then can be healthy

How can i make my diet cholesterol free?Which r the natural foods that lower bad cholestrol?
There are natural foods like oat meal, flax seeds that are reported to lower bad cholesterol. Are these really helpful? Are there any other natural foods that can be helpful?
admin answers:
Cholesterol is an ingredient in fats from animals: meat, cheese, milk, eggs, etc. Fats from plants: peanut butter, canola oil, olive oil, avocadoes, etc. Do not have any cholesterol.
To minimize your “bad” cholesterol, go easy on the animal products with high fat content: drink skim milk, use Eggbeaters instead of whole eggs, eat chicken and turkey as opposed to red meats.
It’s hard to be completely free of either fat or cholesterol…and, indeed, we need some of both in our diets to stay healthy and to regulate our appetites. We just don’t need to eat Big Macs and fries every day.
