Donald asks…
Someone help me out of this eating disorder..?
?
Tonight I read an article and found these:
1. Losing a significant amount of weight
2. Continuing to diet (even when already thin)
3. Feeling fat (even after losing weight)
4. Having an abnormal fear of gaining weight
5. Losing monthly menstrual period for three or more consecutive months
6. Having a preoccupation with food and obsessively counting calories
7. Preferring to eat in isolation
8. Exercising compulsively
9. Abusing laxatives or other over-the-counter diuretics
10. Denying that you’re hungry
11. Always having an excuse as to why you’re not eating (for example, “I just ate” or “I’m feeling ill”)
12. Becoming “disgusted” with former favorite foods
13. Obsessing about food labels
14. Drastically reducing or completely eliminating fat intake
15. Not believing others when they tell you you’re thin
16. Detesting all or specific parts of your body
17. Denying that a problem exists
I have Symptoms No 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16 and 17.
I don’t want to count calories anymore. I don’t want to have to do exercise every day. I just want to be healthy but I don’t know how.. how can I eat healthy when I’m so, so terrified of gaining weight?
I hope there’s a website online that has threads for conversations for people who have eating disorders like myself.
No harsh answers, thank you.

Food suggestions for dieting?
Look, I am skinny, but I still want to eat the right foods because I am trying to gain abs. However, I have no clue what to read. So many foods are labeled unhealthy, so I’m afraid I will eat foods that I consider healthy, when they really aren’t. So I was wondering if anyone had a good suggestions for foods to eat for Breakfest, Lunch, and dinner. I am in decent shape, but want to be in excellent shape through cardio, and various workouts, so the gym part is covered, but I have no clue what to eat. Thanks.

Hi-
Breakfast: avoid sugar-loaded cereal, do you like oatmeal?
It is very filling and tasty esp. With strawberry, milk and sugar.
If you don’t like that you could go for 2 toasts (whole grain) with cheese (not american cheese, edam is better and much tastier or low-fat cream cheese) with OJ or AJ or 2% milk.
Perhaps 2 egg omlette with cheese and bacon with 1 slice of toast+cup of milk
I ate this and was very healthy for long (was anyway) and it is also very healthy if you cook the eggs with EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) instead of butter.
Lunch: I don’t know if you like that or not but I usually had a bagel (whole grain) with low fat cream cheese (so yummy) or a salad (low fat dressing) or pasta salad or baked potato (very easy and quick and healthy, i’ll post it down)
Dinner: you know deep fried food is very unhealthy but if you like the taste of french fries and fried chicken,… Bake them in the oven instead while coating the pan with EVOO. It is much healthier and you get used to it. Add sides such as pasta (whole grain) and use EVOO instead of any other fat. It is okay to eat white pasta but in moderation along with pizza. Processed meat (burgers, sausages,..) are very unhealthy so go for baked chicken, grilled steak, tuna… But it is okay to indulge with mcdonalds once in a while.
Baked potato no butter recipe:
Wash potato and poke some holes in it with a thin knife. Put in a plastic bag, knot tightly leaving the bag full of air and put in microwave for 5 min. Check if the potato feels soft, if it does then talk it out, tear the bag and get the potato. Remove a bit of it from the top and put to the side.
Cover the potato with salt and pepper all around and in the put small pieces of bacon and edam cheese in the carved part. Cover the rest of the potato (the removed bit) with cheese also and bacon and microwave both in a plate for 1 min.
Hope I was helpful with this. I was very healthy with this diet and exercised regularly.

Laura asks…
How do you convert kcal to calories for cat food? How to determine an average feeding amount?
I have a cat that is massively underweight and has kidney cancer, so the more high calorie food he eats the better. I know others have the opposite problem: a healthy cat that needs a diet. I read that the average for a cat is 15-30 cal per pound of body weight, but the cans, dry food, and treats all measure in kcals. I vaguely remember from food chemisty class that 1 kcal of energy = .001 cals, but I read that it’s the opposite (1 kcal = 1,000 “label” nutritional calories) and that kcals and calories are the same/interchangeable when it comes to pet food. I am mostly interested in tracking how much my cat eats per day (more is always better for him), but I know the real conversion would help a lot of other people with overweight cats too. Does anyone know the real conversion? Does it vary between brands of food? Does the conversion factor in how much just passes through his system undigested (there are 2 measurements on each can of food)? I will ask my vet to explain the confusing label when they open on Monday, but I think a basic calorie conversion for cat food labels will help everyone, Anyone who can explain the two conflicting kcal counts on the medical k/d food I have in the mean time would be greatly appreciated (his vet seems to dumb things down for me for no reason, but otherwise has taken great care of all of my animals), but really I mainly need the conversion so I can determine how many kcals are in a pet food nutritional label calorie and determine how much my cat is eating (enough to gain weight back, enough to maintain weight, etc.)

1 kcal= 1 calorie
“The energy requirement for adult cats range from 60-70 kcal metabolizable energy/kg body weight per day for inactive cats to 80-90 kcal/kg BW for active cats. Kittens at five weeks of age require 250 kcal/kg BW. The requirement drops with age, to 100 kcal/kg BW at 30 weeks and to the adult requirement at about 50 weeks. Gestating cats require about 90-100 kcal/kg BW and lactating cats 90-270 kcal/kg BW depending on litter size”- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_food#Energy_requirement
“Since most people free-feed dry food, the amount of calories consumed in a day is not known. In this case, figure out what you think your cat *should* weigh and plug that number into this formula:
Required calories per day = [13.6 X optimal lean body weight in pounds] + 70
Most female cats should weigh a nice, lean 10 -11 pounds. Most male cats should fall into the 11 -13 pound range.”- http://www.catinfo.org/?link=felineobesity#Safe_Rate_of_Weight_Loss
Hills k/d® Feline “Canned 1279kcal/kg (200 kcal/ 156 g can )”
- “1279kcal/kg” means if your cat ate 1 kilogram of this food , your cat would have consumed 1279kcal
-”(200 kcal/ 156 g can)” 1 156g/5.5oz can of cat food contains 200 kcals

John asks…
do I have an eating disorder? Please read this and help me?
I’m 13 years old (almost 14) , 5’3/5’4 and i weigh around 120 pounds (might be a bit less)
I know i’m not fat but i’m very self conscious of my body. For the past couple months i’ve been exercising every day. Most days I run 2 mile runs and sometimes walk 1 mile in addition, on other days i do a workout dance class for an hour. If I skip a day of exercise I feel very guilty. I constantly worry and think about my body, and when I eat food I read all the labels. I’m not starving myself, and I don’t make myself throw up or anything like that, I don’t binge, but I’m always obsessing over everything I eat. I make sure everything I eat is very healthy, and I seriously never eat any junk food or sweets. Last night I was at my grandparents for dinner and they served a small slice of pie for everybody, but I just COULDN’T eat a bite, I never am able to eat sweet things like ice cream or anything. My mom says that I should be able to enjoy sweets occasionally and that I need to stop worrying since i’m exercising regularly. That makes sense, I know, but I can’t bring myself to eat anything sugary like that. I don’t love my body and so if I ever slip up eating something that isn’t 100% good for me, i’ll feel VERY guilty. Today at lunch I had a lot of granola which was full of sugar and nuts and I felt very guilty, even though it was organic and it was light brown sugar, it was just extra calories. I know i’m not anorexic or anything, and I’m not underweight I know.. I’m just really trying to lose a little weight and tone up. Sometimes I find myself chewing food and spitting some out instead of swallowing it all. Not all the time, but sometimes. I’m always jealous of other peoples bodies and I just wish I could have a beautiful body. I always think that i’m not happy with my body and I eat unhealthy, it’s my fault that my body isn’t the way I want it to be. I can’t go a day without worrying about my body and the food I put in it.
Do you think i have an eating disorder? if so what would it be? I don’t feel comfortable talking to anybody I know about this because it’s really embarrassing. I don’t know what to do
edit: I always think that IF i’m not happy with my body and I eat unhealthy, it’s my fault that my body isn’t the way I want it to be. I can’t go a day without worrying about my body and the food I put in it.
IF, i do eat healthy.

Sounds like EDNOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified)
However, if you keep with this path you may find yourself underweight and a classified anorexic

Richard asks…
Do I sound anorexic to you?
My parents think I’m anorexic because I’m on a restricted diet. I limit myself from eating greasy, sugary, fatty food. I try to eat as healthy as possible. I count calories, never allowing myself to go over 1800 a day. I read all food labels before eating. Every once in a while however, I will allow myself to have whatever I want in moderation. I try to exercise at least everyday for about 30-60 min. I’m very afraid of gaining weight, it’s one of my worst fears. I’m 19, 5’3, 100 lbs.
Do I sound anorexic?
Also, I want to lose a little bit of weight. Not too much. Just like a few pounds.
admin answers:
I am the same way, but i am not as skinny as you. Your are NOT anorexic, you are just very cautious of what goes in your body which is GOOD. You dont want crappy foods in your body. You should not lose weight though, try eating more protein and lifting weights so your gaining muscle and you look skinnier with muscle on, just please do not get scared when you see the scale going up but your still fitting into your skinny jeans. Muscle weighs more than fat, but it takes up less room in your body so you look thinner.
Look at victorias secret models for a healthy toned beautiful body.Theyre also great role models because they actually eat very healthy and exercise lots to maintain their strong bodies.
Do not get too obsessed counting calories though, just eat when your hungry and stop when your satisfied.
