Your Questions About My Bmi 22.5

Sandy asks…

Any ideas how to reduce face fat?

Hi, I’m 29, weight 11st and have a BMI of 22.5. No matter what I do I can’t reduce my face fat.
Any ideas how i could do this?

admin answers:

Some people just have rounder faces! If you’re sure it’s pure fat – ie, double chin, then you’ll need to lose weight all over to get the face fat off. :( I know it’s a bummer, but you can’t spot treatment. You can try just eating heatlhier in general – like instead of bad meals for every meal, if you know you’re eating pasta for dinner, have a salad for lunch, etc. Mild changes in diet have a huge effect overall :)

If you could walk for a half hour every day, that will boost your metabolism and help extra weight come off faster too. Good luck!

Also, if you just have a naturally round face, you won’t get wrinkles or age quickly. :) It’s a huge bonus!

Mary asks…

toning legs with a pear shape?

I’ve lost 16 pounds in the last 6 months and now I’m at a normal weight, my BMI is 22.5. I walk 4 miles a day, I bike a little, I’ve started hiking and I climb some stairs at work. But I’m a pear shape and my legs are still big and flabby. What can I do?

admin answers:

If its fat, then you will have to begin doing leg exercises, like squats, leg press, weighted lunges. Cable kick backs. And hamstring curls. But if its skin and it wont go away then you have to have it surgically removed.

Your Questions About Good Cholesterol And Bad Cholesterol Ranges

Carol asks…

Whole egg .vs. Egg whites, which is better for you?

Being vegetarian when I don’t have the time to make a veggieburger or buy some tofu I’ll occasionally eat eggs. Only organic, free range, cage free, not often but maybe a few times a month?

I usually make them scrambled or take them with me hardboiled but I’m worried about the nutritional value. The yolk has cholesterol and the white does not? The whites are supposedly healthier and I’m for eating better but then the yolks would be thrown out and I don’t believe in wasting food. Or at least that a animal/plant gave me as far as vegetarian goes.

I’m sure I have bad cholesterol, and I don’t want to add to it. Is it really healthier to just eat the whites? What am I supposed to do with the yolk if I don’t eat it so not to waste it? I’m sorry, it is unclear my English I think is good but it seems to confuse people. Is this understandable question?

admin answers:

Eggs have been bad mouthed for years on end with “researchers” claiming that it revs up your cholestorohl and will kill you before you can see your children graduate. Thats all a LIE! Just recently! They found that the whole egg is VERY nutritous for you. Yes, its high in fat, BUT, all the nutriens and protein in that egg is all in the yolk. PLUS the fats in the egg it the good kind of fats. Yknow, like the avacado and nutty fats? What I do? I eat egg whites mostly. But I limit my whole egg intaake for about 2-3 a week. The rest of the time if I want eggs, I use egg whites.
Heres and article that mentions the eggs nutrition: http://think100.com/blog/2011/03/is-egg-good-or-bad-for-you/
heres another: http://www.articlesbase.com/health-articles/are-egg-yolks-really-unhealthy-356261.html
kinda deabtes and defends the egg yolk.
Justa a quick summary. There are other articles out there that mention the health benifits of the egg.
Btw, kudos on eating free range organic eggs. I do too! My grandma calls up her “freinds” from the other neighbour hood and they have a little chicken farm in there backyard and they give us their eggs for free! Just thought Id share that. :)

Jenny asks…

Is this doctor a quack or a good doctor?

My husband went to see a doctor after being seen a local ER when his blood pressure was elevated. His average blood pressure is 135/75. He is given a yearly complete physical by his job because of the type of work he does. His blood work comes back fine. The only thing that the doctor ever commented on was his weight. His cholesterol level has been in the good range below 180. This new doctor did blood, ekg, and chest xray. He said at his last office visit that his ekg was normal. The lab called back and said that his cholesterol level was 200 last week. My husband has been on a diet and exercising. This doctor now wants to do a echo stress test and a battery of other expensive tests. I found this doctor on our insurance website and didn’t check his credentials. He has a massive network of over 20 doctors. He is the main doctor in a hospital with a very bad reputation. I was concerned about the cost of all these procedures since our deductibles are high. His office found out that I was inquiring to my insurance about these costs. I called his office to speak to the accounts payable to find out what we would have to pay out of pocket. One of the technicians basically told me that it would be very expensive. I found out that maybe we would have to pay over $2000 for all the deductibles. The doctor’s secretary called me back and had me speak to the doctor. He was sugary sweet until I mentioned that we might not be able to pay the deductibles. He became sarcastic and rude. I have a feeling that he’s using this to make money off of my husband. We are on a limited budget. Just because we have group health insurance doesn’t mean it’s good insurance. After my husband has this test on Thursday I’m finding a better doctor. I live near Cleveland and should have gone to the Cleveland Clinic. It’s a stupid and expensive mistake. I don’t want my husband on the statin pills. I know he needs the BP pills until he loses the weight. Don’t doctor recommend a healthy prescription of weight loss and diet changes anymore?
Computer made a mistake. Sorry!

admin answers:

If it were me, I’d get a second opinion, for sure. In the meantime, healthy diet and exercise are always a good way to go, especially for BP and cholesterol. I have high BP as well.

Joseph asks…

Is numbness in left hand a sign of mild stroke?

My 79 yrs. old Father-in-law couldn’t grip things with his left hand…and was admitted to the hospital. CT scan and ECG reports are all good…yet they want to keep him under observation for 3 more days. (He’s regularly taking medicines for high BP for the last many years + aspirin. Isn’t diabetic, cholesterol is within normal range)

Why do you think that’s required if reports haven’t spotted any clots? I’m mortally scared of hospitals as they are hot-beds of all sorts of infections.

Should we get him discharged on request? Or would it be a bad call?

Please advise! Thank you :)

admin answers:

P’quaint!,
The hand is innervated by 3 nerves: the median, ulnar, and radial. The median nerve is responsible for innervating the muscles involved in the fine precision and pinch function of the hand. It originates from the lateral and medial cords of the brachial plexus (C5-T1). The ulnar nerve is responsible for innervating the muscles involved in the power grasping function of the hand. It originates at the medial cord of the brachial plexus (C8-T1). The radial nerve is responsible for innervating the wrist extensors, which control the position of the hand and stabilize the fixed unit. It originates from the posterior cord of the brachial plexus (C6-8). The radial and ulnar arteries, which are branches of the brachial artery, provide the blood supply to the hand. Supplemental arteries in the forearm include the anterior interosseous artery, the posterior interosseus artery, and (occasionally) the median artery, all of which are branches of the ulnar artery. Any injury to the nerves or blood supply may cause numbness to the hand. This would include trauma to the cervical vertebrae 5,6, and 8 and the 1st thoracic vertibra. The causes of numbness of the left hand related to cardiac events are usually accompanied by pain which is often felt in the entire arm and shoulder as well, and could be the result of a myocardial infarction (heart attack). Shortness of breath, pain into the throat, deep pain or pressure sensation underneath the breastbone. However, this is not always the case, and your father-in-law is likely being kept in for observation to ensure that the cause has not been masked by any other cause. Whilst your concern of infection in places like hospitals etc, are not without foundation, you should make the decision for his pemature discharge with the co-operation of all concerned, including your father-in-law. An early discharge might find these symptoms recurring at a later date, maybe with more serious results. At this time, the doctors must have a concern that there may be something that has not presented and are likely doing examinations and/or tests to try to discover or exclude the possible cause.

Ruth asks…

does this sound like a bad sign?

was on steroids 2 months ago, blood pressure ranged from 130-180 over 50-80 and my cholesterol was destroyed for about 3 months straight, and now im off adn my blood pressure is 110 over 60 on average but everyonce in a while i get these feelings of a needle or something like that going through my heart every time it pumps and it lasts for 5 minutes to an hour then stops its been getting better as the time goes on but does this sound dangerous and is it reversible now that my blood pressure is safe again and my cholesterol is back to normal?

admin answers:

Your body is still adjusting to going back to normal. Should be anything but you may want to see your doctor to be sure. You should take some natural supplements to help regulate for body for the next while.

Mandy asks…

Blood test and physical results. Potential problems?

I’m a 29 year old male, I try to exercise as often as I can, and I eat a basically vegetarian/Mediterranean diet, i.e., I eat fish but I don’t eat meat/pork/chicken etc.. I consider myself pretty healthy except I like beer and wine, sometimes a little too much ;) Nevertheless, I feel fine. So I just got these results back:
The Good:
Blood pressure is 120/80
Cholesterol is 139, total.
HDL is 70
LDL is 51
All other results of the panel are normal and within range.
The Bad:
White Blood Cell Count 3.7, low in the normal range of 4.0-10.5.
Glucose is 101, high when considered in the range of 65-99.

My doctor hasn’t contacted me with alarm at the results but it’s bothering me a bit. I want to be completely, without question, healthy! Is there anything to consider dangerous about the “bad” results? Anything I should be trying to change? Thanks for all input!

admin answers:

Gpxflee -
Here’s your second opinion. You have nothing to worry about with these essentially normal values you call “The Bad.” Your BP and lipids are excellent. Your WBC count is only slightly below the lab’s normal range but certainly acceptable as normal, especially with a normal WBC differential count of the types of WBCs. The glucose is normal, even if fasting, with a difference of 1 or 2 from the normal being truly normal. Don’t change a thing. Keep up your present healthy ways. If you wish, get another CBC in about a year or two. Stay well!

Your Questions About Mushy Poop Puppy

George asks…

Mucus in my puppy’s poop?

I came home today and found my puppy had found her way into the garbage and the floor was a mess. She also pooped something funny, but I”m not sure about the chronological order of her eating garbage or the weird poop since I wasn’t home. Normally her poop is relatively solid, but today it had some yellow mucus in it and was mushier than usual, but not really diarrhea-like watery. I know mucus in feces could be a sign of worm infection, so should I be worried? A couple of hours later she pooped again and it looked normal. Last week or the week before last, she also vomitted yellow liquid. But it only occurred once so I didn’t bring her to the vet. Now I am starting to get concerned with the mucus in the poop. Is this normal behavior every once in awhile? Because my puppy is a very curious girl and she always scrummages around the house for anything edible.

admin answers:

Animals belong outside. Put her in a fenced-in lot where there aren’t any garbage cans or cabinets she can get into.

David asks…

My puppy seems to not be interested in his food today, and is eating his poop.?

I have a 5 month old male pit bull terrier puppy who is loving and very active. I feed him a natural, healthy food 3 times a day as advised. He ate his breakfast just fine this morning, but doesn’t seem to be at all interested in his lunch. He will eat a treat just fine though. I have also caught him eating his poop a few times, which is a little loose and mushy. Does anyone have any idea why he is doing this or what is going on? I would appreciate any suggestions!!

admin answers:

Offer him food 2 times instead of 3 times a day or just leave a bowl half full for him at all times (although he could easily get fat from over eating) Also try making his meal times very rewarding. Sit with him and tell him he’s a good boy, or play with him after as a reward so he’ll always relate eating to good things and then he’ll be more interested in eating.
As for the poop..his breed have a great sense of smell (as all dogs do) so he may actually be smelling the food that has broken down in his waste. My dogs think cat poop are treats and I asked my vet once why they would eat it and she said because they can smell the cat food in the waste. Try to correct him if you catch him eating his poop and he’ll figure out that it’s a bad thing.
Good Luck!

Mark asks…

My 4 week old pit puppy is pooping some clear pink stuff?

Hi I have a 4 week old pitbull puppy. We got him a week ago. Before you ask why I have a 4 week old pup, read my last question..I saved him from a crackhead who didnt have him with his mother basically.. Anyways..HE HAS BEEN DOING GREAT AND ITS DRY ROYAL CANIN BABY DOG FOOD..ITS HARD AND i ADD A LITTLE WATER. He eats 4 times a day a few tablespoons at a time…he always chows it down. When I first got him he was having solid poops, H ehad a dewormer last monday.. now last few days he has been pooping alot and more mushy. Especially after eating. He pooped about 4 times after eating this am… then tonight he pooped about the same after eating.. then i noticed some watery poop on the pee pad and then some watery pinkish color with a tiny bit of blood. Then he squatted down and all that come out were a few drops of clear pinkish tint liquid. What is going on? If still happening I will call vet tomorrow.
I had given him formula a few times but vet said I didnt need to because he has his teeth which would make him around 6 weeks, but he looks and walks like he is only barely 4 weeks.
Oh I forgot to mention.. he came back negative for round worms but the vet gave dewormer anyway just incase.

admin answers:

I would still take him to the vet because he is so young but maybe the food is to rich for his little tummy and has given him diarrhea. The cramping he may be having might be hard enough to cause his intestine to bleed a little.

Mandy asks…

Puppy with this many Bowel Movements????

I posted a question on here a few days ago about my 9 week old maltese/poodle having worms in her stool. I went to the vet monday and they gave me a medication that takes care of ALL the worms. I gave her one on Monday, and I’m supposed to give her the other pill 3 weeks from yesterday. Well, i expected her to have a bowel movement with worms, and just a few hours of ingesting the pill she had a BM and many little worms came out.. ewww. Well, after that I only saw one worm in the next stool. But she’s been going A LOT today, probably 5-7 times… very mushy poop but I don’t visibly see any more worms. Should she be going this many times? Is that how “worm medicine” works? I’m calling the vet tomorrow to make sure this is normal, I’m sure it’s probably ok but I was just a little concerned about how often she was going. Thanks!! :)

admin answers:

The first and second BM’s were pretty typical for a dog with multiple species of worm. Mushy poo is better than watery poo, but still I would check with the vet. He may recommend a bland diet like chicken and rice for a few days until her system can get itself back to normal.

Carol asks…

Quality dog food to help make poop solid.?

We recently changed my dog’s food from puppy chow to adult food. We’re using Dick Van Patton’s Natural Balance (duck and potato). Since the switch, her poop has been really mushy. Not solid, like it used to be. Can anyone recommend a good quality food that with help solid-up her poop?
THANKS!

admin answers:

Wellness. My dog eats that and her poop is solid. Lol

Whatever you do don’t use Ol’Roy or Pedigree

FaCeBoOk………………………?

how do u use facebook? like, what is poke, what is wall-wall, how can u talk to someone, how do u play games, how do u find people, etc.

admin answers:

Facebook is a social networking website like MySpace. It’s another way to interact with friends, family, and others online. You can find people by searching their name, location, etc. And communicate with them by posting on their page. There’s really a ton of features; this wiki article below gives a good description of each.

Thomas asks…

FaCEBOOK??

alright…so many of my friends have a facebook page and i’d like one too. my parents only talk negatively about MySpace, online chat rooms, etc. i don’t have a cell phone, which will be one of my points when trying to convince them to let me get one. what are some other points i can make to persuade my parents to let me get one?

admin answers:

Just make sure they know that facebook is NOTHING like myspace!! Facebook you can make it completely private where no one can see who you are unless you want them to!! Oh yeah and do your chores, maybe even do some without them having to ask you to do them, that always worked for me when I was junior high and high school :)

Sandy asks…

FACEBOoK ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!???

HOW DO YOU FIND OUT WHAT YOU’VE DONE ON FACEBOOK??? LIKE WHO’S WALL YOU HAVE COMMENTED ON AND WHO YOU’VE POKED AND stuff like that? Or is it impossible?

Your Questions About Good And Bad Cholesterol Numbers

Daniel asks…

I have a cholesterol of 210. My HDL is 109 and my LDL is 90. I’m a 26 year old female who is at a normal wt.?

Are my numbers good or bad? Thank you.

admin answers:

Total Cholesterol – Less than 200 mg/dL is desirable. (200-239 is borderline-high risk)

HDL – In the average woman, they range from 50 to 60 mg/dL. (109 is very good)

LDL – Less than 100 mg/dL is optimal

Robert asks…

Lots of sweating and water retention despite being in very good shape — medical or middle age?

I’m 40. A few years ago, I got tired of being out of shape and started doing a “Rocky.” When I first started, I would sweat a good deal. I’d be really thirsty during workouts. But eventually my body regulated and I maintained my college weight of 190 with a waist of 37. I would sweat very little during workouts.

I kept it going, but was injured over the winter (shoulder), took a bunch of anti-inflammatories and such and eased the workouts. I gained weight but thought I’d be able to take it off.

Anyway, I have been doing “Rocky II” since March or so and my eating is relatively low, but the weight (210) won’t come off. It also seems to bunch around the middle of my body. I think it’s water retention, as at the gym or when running I tend to get drenched. It’s way more sweating than anyone else I see at the gym. The floor is covered with it after. But, that said, the weight’s not coming off, despite going every day and upping the cardio to a relatively hard 45 minutes.

One thing to note, I have high BP and bad cholesterol. It’s hereditary. The doctor called it Metabolic Syndrome. I’ve been taking Cozaar and Gemfibrozil for most of my 30s, and all my numbers are very good.

Anyway, am I doing something wrong?

admin answers:

Be something medical but it is far more lily you sweat because you need to. The body regulates its heat that way, you sweat you need to cool down. Your description of your Body shows you have a bigger volume internally than an thin person lanky person, therefore you have use your cooling areas more effectively , that is sweat and obviously drink more. You now have 20 pounds of insulation extra than when you were 190 so you body has to work very very very hard to cool hence the sweat, loose the weight loose the sweat

trying to change the amount of water your body maintains is not advised, if you haven’t changed medications then one can assume the medications have not effected you differently in a few months

the weight bunches around your middle because that’s where god in his infinite wisdom decided to put Male fat stores

the body is very indiscriminate about weight and food, amount calories expended weight goes down , calories intake exceed calories expended weight goes up.
Not genetics or water or anything else, the body obeys the laws of physics and does not magically produce mass from any where. There were no fat people in jewish extermination camps, why? They dint have enough to eat
we have discussed this before but loosing weight and maintaining muscle mass is trickier, you were not eating enough and feeling bad that stopped you from working out, we discussed upping your calories and it worked.

Ok now we need to stop weighing your self and start measuring yo, weight is the very very very worst measure of fat.

Leave your cardio where it is but try an extra half hour of weight training 3 sets of 8 and be patient measure your self in a month , move too quick and you will go out of balance, now what i suspect will happen is your weight will go up but that’s good because you base metabolism will increase then doing what your doing your weight will come down

or alternatively haul your azz out of bed and run for half an hour every day then do your cardio later in the day

Susan asks…

Kidney Creatinine level at 1.4…need help understanding.?

History….I put in a question about UTI/Diabetes infection last week. Now I have the results back.

My Kidney creatine level was 1.4. Nurse said normal level is .6 to 1.1. My Blood sugar level is 6.3, which he said was good. But my bad cholesterol is also bad at 160, but my good cholesterol is good at 49 or so. Lipids normal

So, my concern is the Kidney creatinine results at 1.4. Can someone explain to me before my Dr. appt is this indicating Kidney disease, Kidney infection. Just some general information would help ease my mind. My Dr. appt is tomorrow. My mind is running wild with concerns of needing a new kidney now.. But I just don’t understand these numbers and want some friendly advice. Thanks.

admin answers:

Normal is upto 1.2 but a marginal increase of 0.2 sometimes means nothing…RELAX nothing is wrong with u!!!!

Donald asks…

What on Earth Can I do to raise my HDL Level?

Well, I just got my cholesterol checked, and my HDL levels weren’t optimal. This is disappointing since I run, on average, 35 miles a week, and eat a healthy diet (vegetarian except for fish 4 times a week).

So here are my numbers:

CHOLESTEROL159 (good)
TRIGLYCERIDE94 (good)
HDL CHOLESTEROL44 (borderline risky)
LDL CHOLESTEROL, CALCULATED 96 (good)
CHOLESTEROL/HDL RATIO3.6 (fair)

My resting HR is 54 bpm, and my blood pressure is good.

Losing weight isn’t a healthy option as I’m 6’3” and 173 lbs.

I eat all the foods that they say have the healthy fats, and avoid all the bad fats.

Anyone have any good tips on raising HDL levels? I’m kind of looking for answers outside of the norm, since I already eat fairly healthy (with the possible execption of sugar consumption), and I’m a very good and active runner.

Thanks!

Thanks!!

admin answers:

Well you have excellent numbers. For a man its more common to have a low HDL, compared to women as estrogen increases HDL.

Eat a variety of (preferably fatty) fish at least twice a week. Include oils and foods rich in alpha-linolenic acid (flaxseed, canola and soybean oils; flaxseed and walnuts).

There are cheap fish pills that come in giant containers. You “should” take 4 grams (which is about 12 pills a day) YIKES! But that is for people with heart disease. So maybe take two pills a day or something. It helps to freeze them to prevent bad breath, otherwise, there are enteric coated kind that shouldn’t shouldn’t cause the smelly burps.

As a vegi… You probably know flaxseed. I love covering stuff with it.

John asks…

What does it mean if one has high cholesterol(240) but the LDL is (126),HDL is (92)and triglycerides are(106)?

The HDL of 92 is considered to be abnormally high but I have read that the higher your HDL’s are, the more you are protected against heart disease. I am very confused – a total of 240 cholesterol is supposed to be bad but if the HDL’s are higher than normal what do these numbers really mean? Would someone with these given levels need to consider medication? If so wouldn’t the medication lower the good cholesterol (HDL’s) too?

admin answers:

Depending on the equipment used, the normal range for this blood tests is a little different. I don’t know where Rachel got her numbers but they are way off.
I don’t know if you are familiar with the Mayo Clinic but this is considered to be one of the top facilities in this country. Presidents, royalty, and rich people from other countries are treated there because of the excellence of care.
Mayo Clinics normals for these tests are:
cholesterol less than 200
triglycerides less than 150
hdl 40 or less
ldl 100 or less]
It is a very complex relationship between these test results. You want the hdl to be high….the higher the better. You want the ldl to be as low as possible. Cholesterol and triglycerides also are the best when low.
Your triglycerides are good.
If your cholesterol is over 200 it is too high. However if it is only 10 or 15 points above 200 it may be acceptable but only if your hdl is over 100. Not to many people have an hdl that high however.
So, your cholesterol is high enough to need treatment. Some people are successful at getting it down through diet alone. This would involve avoiding saturated fats and limiting all fatty foods. Whole grains can also help bring it down. Your cholesterol should be rechecked after you’ve tried the diet approach if you choose to try this. Ask your doctor for more info on the diet he/she recommends and how soon you would need to recheck the cholesterol level. There are excellent medications available if diet doesn’t work or you don’t want to try the diet route.
An hdl of 92 is good but not enough to warrant not treating the cholesterol of 240.
Ldl is the bad cholesterol. At 126 plus the 240 cholesterol you need to take some kind of immediate action.
Talk to your doctor please.

Your Questions About Healthy Food Questions For Kids

George asks…

question for parents with kids between the ages of 9-12…?

I am organizing a nutritional cooking class for kids in my area between the ages of 9-12. I want to teach kids how to make creative, delicious meals out of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, etc.

it will also teach kids about the amount of sodium, fat, and calories are in typical foods like mac and cheese. or how much sugar is in soda, and how kids can substitute bad foods with healthy foods and hae it still taste good. parents will also be allowed to participate in the program if they wish. I plan to work with an actual nutritionist as well, to make sure the kids are learning legitimate stuff. It will be taught on a level that isn’t taught in school. it will be taught by people who have a passion for health and a passion for cooking, unlike school. And the program will be free.

Kinship Foster Care Questions?

I had lost my children on false accusations on my son, My daughter had no signs of abuse but CPS took her anyway. My boy was born with medical problems and cps said he was born healthy (i got medical papers states otherwise) My son had fallen ill in foster care, Impetigo at 10 months, ear aches colds. Low iron even though on iron drops. But recently the CPS people moved him out of foster care and into same home my daughter is in (grandparents home) Mind you my daughter is with the grandparents she has had a nasty yeast infection since Sept 2011. It cleared up fast Jan 17th 2012 when i made a comment to CPS if it was me i would lose my kids because its abuse and neglect. She said no i wouldn’t, But funny how this yeast infection vanishes. And Jan 17th 2012 my son was breaking out all over his face with red marks and he is 1 yr old.. Now question i need advice on.. For kinship foster they have to provide healthy meals for kids etc? But when the grandparents all they do is go out to dennys/mcdonalds/wendys (fast food) for lunch and dinner. Isn’t that not providing good care? My daughter used to get milk and juice and water when she was with me. Now she don’t get milk because grandparents and cps says she dont like milk and allergic (not founded by doctor) My daughter is given capri suns thats all my girl drinks. Also it says kinship foster care, They have to be healthy and no health problems mental as well.
The grandparents have my kids, in 2009 almost head on to me in girlfriends car if it happened they be at fault, chased me down the BLVD in gfs car at 80mph in a 40mph (was on phone with 911 and they told me where to go where police would be waiting. All because they didnt want me with her and they were taking the car home with them, (car was in her name) (have police record on this) in 2009 they kept driving past my house 20+ times. Neighbor was a witness. We called the police and they were told not to keep doing it and its harrassment and stalking. If they are found doing it will be in trouble. Now my fiance’s parents wanted us to breakup and didnt approve of me. After my girlfriend at the time lived at her parents and moved in with me. They kept her belongings (clothes/ $6000 cash she saved back/electronics/her other items) They said if she wont get nothing unless she moves home. (got proof email) When she changed her address to new address. Mail still went to her old place. They said in email if she gets anymore mail they will throw it away. got proof in email) To get her money her items she had to go to an attorney to get them back. Her parents are unstable. My kids grandma has epilepsy over 50 years of age, Grandfather has high blood pressure and medical issues 67 years old. CPS don’t care what i said they are unfit. But i have a permancy hearing March 12th 2012 and fighting for my kids. My question is when grandparents go on stand should i bring attention to the judge the proof i have? They used to call my girlfriend fat, pillsbury doughgirl, good year blimp. They used to stalk her at work and school. She has coworkers as witness. She quit that job because she couldn’t take them stalking.

Any advice. Do these people sound like fit caregivers?

admin answers:

In court you and everyone else will have a chance to tell their story. And the Judge and all the attorneys all who are professionals will have the task of weeding out all the bias testimony. The Judge and attorneys hear these stories every day of the week. Since the children are still at he Grandparents I assume that their care is satisfactory to family service and to the court.

You will have your chance to tell your side of the story as will she.

Daniel asks…

Need Know How from Vegans? How did your taste buds and Sense of Smell Change?

Several Questions for Vegans: I have been on vegan lifestyle for two weeks now. It has change my entire body which is great. I just want insight..Is it normal for your tastebuds to change and hate foods you use to eat, after two weeks I had one slice of pizza with my kids and it tore up my stomach, why is your stomach more gassy while eating healthy foods, and also now that my system is clean I can fill my food moving thru my intestines…Its freaking me out…is this all normal! Any info would be great..support too to keep going..thanks…Oh and my smell changed…popcorn smells like urine and so on..and I am now disguested by foods I use to love…Normal???

admin answers:

I’ve been a vegan for almost 4 months and find on occation I go through strange taste/smell issues. Like a few nights ago garlic smelt like pee or something very foul, like garbage. And the next night, I was fine and back to chowing down on it….

I do notice my sence of smell is more sensitive and going grocery shopping often makes me gag.

I am generally a gassy person, but being vegan has made me more gassy. Not sure why, but it isn’t in the least bothersome, smells better and isn’t painful.
I can feel gas bubbles moving through my intestines on my left side between my belly button and pubic bone, but not food. Perhaps you feel gas, or you are eating alot more fibert than before and this is what you are feeling, it should settle down. You might be allergic to something though, so if it doesn’t have a talk with your dr.

I don’t get digusted by the foods I used to love, because I don’t eat them now and don’t have them in the house. It is normal for anyone to go on certain food strikes.

Keep up the good work

Sandra asks…

What can I eat to be healthy?

I am VERY unhealthy and I have been always been eating unhealthy foods even as a little kid and I never got to try many healthy foods- Now I am 19 and there are many foods I am too scared to try like kiwis, avocado, mushrooms, peas, the list goes on.
No matter what I eat I always stay at 50kg and since I have been living with my partner I have been eating exceptionally unhealthy. For the past week though all I have been eating is chocolate biscuits, Pepsi and stuff like that and I have already gained 2 kg!
I am very concerned that I am setting myself to have many health problems and to be obese. I have a 6 month old and I give him the best I can what is homemade fruit and vegee purees. I don’t want him to grow up as unhealthy as I was and worried that when if he sees me eating so much junk food when he is older I am going to set a bad example for him.
My question is what are some easy healthy foods I can eat that are pretty easy? Eg. Healthy creeals, crackers, health food shakes, spreads? We go shopping once every two weeks so I don’t think the fruit will stay fresh for that long.

admin answers:

1. Go to the doctor and find out what the deal is with your weight, get any relevant tests. I used to have similar problems with weight but was biking 20 miles a day at the time. You are probably running it off with a newish baby but best to check things out.
2. Casseroles can be quick and easy to throw together, can be reasonably healthy and are great grazing food. They also have the virtue of being comfort food.
3. Buy and use a crock pot if you are really pressed for time.
4. Oranges, lemons, apples, etc keep quite well when placed somewhere cool and dry.
5. Cheerios, particularly the non-sugary varieties are good people chow.
6. Look into a good multivitamin.

You’ve got to have a plan when you hit the grocery store. If nothing else grab a can of cream of mushroom soup and check the back for recipes, GOYA is great for that sort of thing.

The Mayo clinic is a good resource that I turn to time and again.

Underactive thyroid (few questions)?

I gained almost 200 pounds in a matter of 2 years – and NO, I do not over eat, and I do eat healthy foods. I had 3 kids back to back, and the problem started occuring when I had my second child, I was constantly stuck at home all day with the children, while my dear husband worked. Had a third child, same routine. Well, I’ve become more active then ever in the past 6 months, and I can’t seem to lose weight for nothing!! I mean, how do you go from doing absolutely NOTHING, to being extremely active – and not lose any weight? I still eat healthy and small portions…. WHY?…I don’t understand, or like one week I lost 9 pounds the first half of the week, and gained it all back by the end of the week without doing ANYTHING different!

Yes, Doctor did tell me I had an underactive thyroid, but never rechecked or perscribed any medication for it….

If he perscribed synthroid would it help me to lose the weight that I have gained, if so, how quickly will it work?….

Your Questions About Nutritional Guidelines

Mark asks…

What are the daily nutritional requirements for a canine?

Does anyone have a link for the required daily intake of vitamins and minerals for a dog?

admin answers:

Obviously, nutritional requirements vary from dog to dog just as they do for people. Here are some links to guidelines for daily requirements. Merck doesn’t have it in one concise place, but spread under different topics. BAHNR has a pamphlet with some of the info from their report you can purchase. Finally, petplace.com has a concise listing but doesn’t list for what size dog it applies to.

Sharon asks…

Is there a nutritional difference between store brand formula and name brand formula?

As a mom, I can’t find any significant difference in the formulas nutritionally , is there something that i am missing in the name brands that makes it so much more pricey?

I am planning on breast-feeding, but I’m looking into it just in-case i have to supplement.

admin answers:

There is no difference. All baby formulas have to follow strict federal guidelines for nutritional value. As a breastfeeding mother, I had to supplement. I found that the Enfamil’s Gentle ease worked best for my baby. One day I came across the Walmart brand Parent’s Choice equivalent to Gentleease. It was the same price as Gentlease but double the formula. I bought a can…. Needless to say I am very pleased. My baby didn’t spit up or get gassy. The savings are a plus too!;)

Charles asks…

what is the purpose of the National School Lunch Program?

Are the guidelines set up for this program being strictly adhered to or is it individually controlled?

admin answers:

The National School Lunch Program was designed to help children who fall within set guidelines based on the poverty line to have nutritional meals each day at no or reduced cost. The Federal Government set up the guidelines and this are used to determine how much money each school gets for students enrolled in the program.

Sandy asks…

Are there any good websites that give guidelines about vegetarianism?

I’ve decided to do a little research because I’m thinking about becoming a vegetarian. I realize that there is a lot more to the diet then just stop eating meat, like taking certain vitamins and such. I was wondering if you guys knew any websites that would give vitamin suggestions, recipe ideas, and really any and everything there is to know about vegetarianism.
Thanks so much!

admin answers:

I take a multivitamin and B12 tablet daily and I do not have anemia or any vitamin deficency. I have my bloodwork done every 90 days and I tell you I have much healthier as a Vegan. Vegan cooking is not much different than Standard cooking. For example if you like Tacos then substitute Boca Crumbles for the ground beef. You can make Sloppy Joes and Chili the same way. You can eat spaghetti just substitute Marinara for the meat sauce. If you are worried about protein you can make a fruit smoothie out of soy milk and put a scoop of soy protein powder in it. I also cook and season my food with Nutritional Yeast Flakes which serves two purposes. The Nutritional Yeast Flakes are loaded with B Vitamins and also have a cheesy flavor to them. Nutritional Yeast Flakes tastes great on pasta and vegetables. I also like the Skinny Bitch in the Kitch cookbook which has a wide variety of Vegan recipes. If you have a Whole Foods Market in your area that is the place to shop and find all of your main staples. Just know that being a Vegetarian/Vegan is no different than any other diet. You cannot get stuck in a rut and eat junk food or the same few items and be healthy. You have to eat from all food groups and eat a wide variety of vegetables. Some people go Vegetarian and only eat salads made from iceberg lettuce, french fries, and veggie burgers, only and wonder why they feel bad. Know that the greener the lettuce the more nutrients it has. You get your proteins from Tofu, Seitan, Tempeh, Beans, Lentils, and Texturized Vegetable Protein (fake meat). You get the rest of your nutrients from Vegetables, Fruit, and Whole Grains. The whiter the bread the less nutritional content it has. So try to eat sprouted whole grain, Rye, and Pumpernickel breads. Try to eat a sweet potato instead of a white potatoe and brown rice instead of white rice when possible. I try to eat different colored vegetables throughout the day that way you know you are getting a wide variety of nutrients. For example today I ate a sweet potatoe, Kale, Spinach, tomatoe, red oninion, mushrooms, and asparagus. Tomorrow I will rotate it out as much as possible. When I make a salad I make it with the darker lettuces like Romaine and I sometimes add fresh spinach to a salad. Iceberg lettuce is not bad for you it just has the least amount of vitamins and the least amount of fiber. Just remember it is so true that you are what you eat. If you eat junk you will feel like junk!

I will post as many links as I can in the sources area below. Hope that these answer all of your questions.

Richard asks…

Just looking for a little info on my health. 15, female, high blood pressure and diet questions?

Im 15 and female. Im 5 foot 2 or 3 inches. I weigh 110 pounds. I was told at school the other day by my nurse, that I had high blood pressure after she took my blood pressure. I read up a little on this and found:

“Primary hypertension (also known as essential hypertension) in children is the label given to high blood pressure when there is no underlying illness or disease that can be identified as the cause. There are several potential causes for primary hypertension in both children and adults. If a child consumes a diet that is high in salt or eats too many foods high in fat, hypertension can develop. Children with abnormally high levels of triglycerides or cholesterol are at risk for hypertension in childhood or adolescence. The same is true for children and adolescents who are overweight and live too sedentary of a lifestyle. If a child has a parent with a history of high blood pressure, he or she might inherit the condition.”

This is the only answer I can find. Im not taking any birth control or medicine, so that cant be the reason my blood pressure has been high. Although Im not overweight, infact my doctor has told me not to lose anymore weight, i do eat a lot of foods that are high in fat. I eat 3-4 cookies a day or some other high in fat dessert. (arn’t all good deserts high in fat?) And I havnt had a very good diet for a year or so now. I eat one meal a day usually between 4 and 6pm. Usually its pizza, mac&cheese, veggie burger, veggie dog, or some other “fake meat” meal since I am a vegatarian. Im suppose to be taking multi-vitamins, but I never remember. and go 2-3 weeks between taking one.

I’ve also experienced shortness of breath lately. I can hardly walk a couple yards without getting really out of breath and feeling dizzy and weak. I have to go up 3 flights of stairs at school during the day. I used to have no problem with this, but now I can hardly do it. Im in shape, but just have had problems with physical exercise lately because as said, i keep experiencing shortness of breath.

— So… what should I do? And is there something wrong with me?

admin answers:

First of all, every food that you mentioned that you eat for dinner is loaded with sodium and too much can cause hypertension, even in a person who is not over weight. Secondly, you need to be eating at least 3 meals a day, but preferably, you should be eating 3 small meals a day and 3 snacks in between meals. This will keep your body from thinking that it needs to go into starvation mode and will also keep your blood sugar levels consistent throughout the day. If your school nurse said that your blood pressure was high, you should go see your family doctor and have them take your blood pressure. This one instance of hypertension could have been a fluke or it could have been taken incorrectly since this does happen from time to time. If your BP is still high when you see your family doctor you should ask for a referral to a pediatric cardiologist and have them do some tests to see if there is something else in your body that could be causing the problems with the high blood pressure. There are medications that can be taken to keep your blood pressure within normal limits which means that it should be no higher than 120/80 and no lower than 100/70. This is the range that is considered optimal and healthy for all adults and teenagers.

Regarding the exercise, it could be that you are experiencing shortness of breath because your heart rate is too fast. When your heart rate gets to a certain speed it can cause you to feel winded and this is your body’s way of letting you know that you are pushing your heart too hard. When walking up a couple flights of stairs your HR should not be above 110 beats per minute. This is also something that you should discuss with your family doctor and the cardiologist. Again, there are medications that can be used to bring the heart rate down to normal levels which is no higher than about 85 beats per minute when seated and no lower than 60 beats per minute. There are some tests that can be run to determine if you are having a more complex problem or if you are just experiencing hypertension and a fast heart beat (fast heart rate is called Tachycardia by doctors). To be on the safe side, speak with your parents and make an appointment with your doctor to get checked out. It can’t hurt anything, but you could cause yourself to become very ill if you do not get it looked at by the doctor. Good luck and I hope that you feel better soon.

John asks…

Pregnancy and Cravings. Are any of these foods bad? Even if I consume alot of them? Other diet questions?

I’m in my first trimester and crave food almost constantly. Are any of them bad? Even if I consume alot of them in a day? Are any of these craving indicators of the gender of my child? I’ve googled all of this but I get mixed answers. I just want your opinions, as mothers or fellow pregnant women.

Grapefruit: This is my number one craving! I crave it almost constantly! I eat at least one a day and one day I ate two and got a stomach ache and diarrhea. Are the two related? Or can that just be from pregnancy? My stools have been pretty soft ever since I’ve known I’ve been pregnant. Is that normal?

Lemons: This is my substitute for grapefruits. I crave these the second most. I squeeze the juice onto spinach leaves and after consuming that I eat the lemon. Sometimes I eat two or three a day. I know that they are bad for my teeth so i rinse with baking soda and warm water after but is it too much acid for my baby? I’ve tried to limit myself more but I crave them so so much!

Tomatoes with Salt: I crave these the third most. I love to eat tomato and avacado on toast with salt and pepper. I know avacado is good for me. Is the combination of grapefruit, lemons, and tomatoes too much for my baby? It seems like a very acidic diet. But I crave it so much!

Wheat bread: I HATE wheat bread and I always have but every diet that i read about for pregnancy tells me to switch to wheat bread. I can’t stand it though. I’ve tried everything and I gag even smelling it. How much will this hurt my diet? I just can’t do it. I’ve managed to switch to wheat tortillas which is good.

Some of my labels on my dairy products don’t indicate if they are pasteurized or unpasteurized. Does that mean they aren’t? I checked all the labels at the store and none of them indicate whether they are or not. My yogurt doesn’t and neither does my milk.

Is it bad to eat frozen foods? Like frozen burritos? I eat them sometimes and they give me gas pains. Does that hurt my baby? Or hot pockets? or any frozen dinner?

I’m on all my vitamins and stuff if that helps. Thank you for your patience and your responses! Please take the time for a worried first timer!! I will be forever indebted to you!

admin answers:

Ok, well, read your question and I think that if you cut down on some or all of the acidic foods that you are eating that would be good for your baby, and it sounds like you like salty foods also, so the acid in the foods that you are craving and the salty foods that you are eating, could put you in a high risk for high blood pressure and swelling of the feet and hands. I would ask your doctor for the right foods to eat during your pregnancy or you can look it up on your computer, there are tons of sights to go on to research what kinds of healthy foods to eat during pregnancy?

seeking alternative(s) to purchasing adderall, perhaps dexedrine for dibiilitating ADHD/ADD….read my situati?

i am married and have two children. i am a chef, meaning i work in an industry that rarely supplies health care. with the slump in the economy i am left with just enough money to make my mortgage and put food on the table. though i have little money, i make just enough for the state to decline me for medicaid. i was diagnosed with ADD at age 15 and began a schedule of 30 mg. a day. as soon as this started i noticed an improvement in my grades and ambition to apply myself in a more productive way. this lasted for 4 years. then i was without means to continue to see my dr.
i have read up on buying adderall without a prescription only to find that it seems to be a hoax. when i inquire further to people about this topic the only results i find are complete strangers labeling me a drug addict. that, i am not. i am a hard working husband and father of two who deals with a medical condition day in and day out. i am simply looking for some type of aid for the treatment of my condition. the stress i experience comes solely from my lack of focus. i have many pressures and things that need my attention….attention that i can not apply.

admin answers:

You can try Dexedrine alone but it just doesn’t have enough “kick” as Adderall. What I suggest is trying Vyvance. It is made by the same people that make Adderall. There is a patient assistance program if you are under a certain poverty cut off you can get it free, here it is: https://www.rxhope.com/PAP/info/PAPList.aspx?drugid=4691&fieldType=drugid

Your Doctor should also know this. Once you fill the half page form out & your Doctor fills the rest out & faxes it in, it only takes a few weeks & it’s good for a year or more.

Sandy asks…

Why not Soy………………………?

In spite of glaring reports from alternative circles, soy is still considered a miracle food by many people. Even the medical community – who should be aware of the real affects of soy – still recommend this food as a great vegetarian source of protein and nutrients. This, however, is not true.
I like to call soy an “anti-food.” That may sound harsh to some of you, but what soy does to us is so dangerous, so profound it deserves to be labeled harshly. Here’s just some of the things in soy that, in my opinion (and many other’s), make it an anti-food:
Phytoestrogens: These are essentially plant hormones. I know a lot of people who buy organic milk to avoid hormones, but don’t realize that soy products are actually even more dangerous. Phytoestrogens interfere with normal hormone regulation. This can really throw our systems out of whack, causing problems like PMS (premenstrual syndrom), cystic fibrosis and even breast cancer in women. In men, these phytoestrogens can cause high estrogen and a decline in testosterone production. This leads to fat weight gain, decreased libido and all sorts of other problems (I know you guys out there don’t like the sound of that). We should also be concerned about the negative impact these plant hormones have on fertility.
Trypsin Inhibitors: Trypsin is important for protein assimilation, so these inhibitors interfere with protein absorption – ironic, considering soy is considered by many to be a valuable protein source. These trypsin inhibitors have led to stunted growth and pancreatic disorders (including cancer) in test animals.
Phytic Acid: Soy contains very high levels of phytic acid, which interferes with the use of valuable minerals like calcium, copper, iron, magnesium and zinc. The phytic acid in soy is also extremely resistant to soaking, sprouting and fermentation (which works to neutralize phytic acid in other foods like grains Cheeseslave made a great post about soaking grains).
Soy can also cause problems with the absorption of other nutrients, like vitamin B12 and vitamin D – yet another reason why high soy consumption is causing rampant nutrient deficiencies in vegetarians and vegans. Soy can also damage the thyroid, which may explain why thyroid dysfunction is so common nowadays.
Furthermore, during processing soy takes on an even uglier face and forms neurotoxins like MSG. Processed soy also contains high levels of aluminum, a highly toxic metal linked to many health problems (like Alzheimer’s).
Experts like Sally Fallon Morrell, head of the Weston A. Price Foundation, are highly concerned with the amount of soy in our children’s diets today, often beginning with soy formula at birth. I was shocked to read this statement on the Weston A Price Foundation website: ”Babies on soy formula receive the estrogenic equivalent of at least 5 birth control pills per day.”
Soy is just not meant to be eaten – at least, not the way we eat it today. Remember, traditional cultures ate only small amounts of highly fermented soy (i.e. fermented for six months). Fermented soy was often eaten with foods like fish broth, which would counteract some of the adverse effects like thyroid damage.
So, this is why I say no to soy. What has been your experience with this food?

Your Questions About Physical Fitness

David asks…

What do you have to do in a physical fitness?

Im entering high school in the fall and I have to take a physical fitness test. What sorts of material are they going to make me do?

admin answers:

In my school we had to do

pushups- (7 minimum for girls and around 14 for guys)
trunk lift (9 inches for girls and i forget the guys)
sit ups- (18 for girls 24 for guys)
sit and reach- (7 inches for guys i think and either 10 or 12 for girls)
height and weight- (you pass this test no matter what)
mile- ( under 11 minutes if your 14, 10:30 if your 15)

and we didn’t do pull ups, i live in california

Lisa asks…

Why is flexibility important to physical fitness?

I am a very good athlete, and recently took the Presidential Challenge. I passed Presidential (better than 85%) with ease on every single test and finally took the flexibility test. I didn’t even get the National level (better than 50%) on that. I’m clearly pretty angry because now I can’t get any kind of award. My question is, why is flexibility important? What does it have to do with my overall physical fitness, because I play sports year round and it never seems to interfere. Also, how can I become more flexible? I’m only a few centimeters off.

admin answers:

Flexibility is extremely beneficial to your health.

The most important attribute to flexibility is that you are less prone to injury. It will also help you in all aspects of fitness as well, and not just being able to touch your toes.

Donna asks…

Need some tips for my physical fitness test?

Hi!

I have a physical fitness test which comprises 1.5 mile/2.4km running component in a couple of days. I feel nervous and excited at the same time. Please give me some crucial tips for the run (how to breathe, psychological motivation, stride, correct posture etc…)

Thank you very much!

Well running is like 95% mental. If you have done any training or anything you will be fine. 1.5 miles is not very long, take an iPod and just enjoy the run. Don’t start off to fast you will burn up I would do the .5 at a moderate pace and push the last mile hard.

Good Luck

Lizzie asks…

What are good high paying jobs that require muscle & physical fitness?

Not so much “require” muscle, but jobs where muscles, cardiovascular endurance, and physical fitness would be beneficial. Because I wanted to be a cop but 50K per year doesn’t seem like it would fit my Toronto lifestyle, and I’ve looked into becoming a personal trainer and they don’t make much more. So what jobs that pay high fit me?

admin answers:

The starting pay of a cop is probably 50k in most major cities like Toronto. I’m guessing it quickly moves up though…

There aren’t really any good high paying jobs that require muscle/physical fitness alone. Most high paying jobs take a University education and years of experience, even in sectors like banking, accounting, etc…

Maybe look at becoming a firefighter?

I mean you can be paid well as a cop or a personal trainer… You just have to be lucky. Just like not everyone on Wall St. Is the CEO of Goldman Sachs

Your Questions About Bad Cholesterol Range

Mark asks…

What drugs to take for reducing bad cholesterol?

my LDL (BAD cholestrol)-190 but normal range is up to 130…
my HDL (GOOD Cholestrol)-39 range is 35-70

my weight is 82kg and height is 177cm

age is 30 (m)

plz tell me some good idea to reduce the bad cholestrol and increase the good cholestol…
if its a drug without side effect plz let me know..

admin answers:

Your LDL & Total cholesterol mean nothing but high triglycerides & low HDL is the only indicator of health risks.

Don’t do drugs. Increase saturated fats to raise your HDL & eliminate sugars & fructose to lower triglycerides.

Triglycerides should be less than 100 & HDL should be greater than 60.

Sharon asks…

Is it possible to have too much HDL cholesterol?

So, I’m 17 and got my blood test just came in. The only thing that is not within range is my HDL cholesterol. I know that it is good to have high amounts of HDL, but is too much of any cholesterol a bad thing?

Richard asks…

Why is having high cholesterol bad?

I was just at my doctor and was told I have high cholesterol after getting my blood work results back. I didn’t have much time to go into detail with my doc on the factors associating with that. The normal average healthy range is 100 and below. I’m at 130 in cholesterol level. So, why is it bad to have high cholesterol? I was told to eat more high fiber foods which will help and to make sure what I am eating does not have any cholesterol. What risk factors come with high cholesterol? Also, I only eat twice a day and so are there any supplemental vitamins to take?

admin answers:

Your body needs very little cholesterol, and the cholesterol that cannot be put to good use is taken up by your immune system (white blood cells). These white blood cells become bloated, and deposit on the walls of your arteries, forming plaques, and contributing to arterial blockages, high blood pressure, and heart disease.

The fiber will help because it is non-digestible, and has some similar chemical characteristics as cholesterol. These similar characteristics allow you to poo out the cholesterol instead of absorbing it.

As far as supplements go, there is always a debate going about whether they help. I say that if you have a low-nutrient diet, taking a multi-vitamin can’t hurt.

I hope that helps!

Paul asks…

Help reading Cholesterol results?

Hi, I’m writing on behalf of my mother because she’s 47 and doesn’t really know how this ‘Yahoo’ thing works.

She went to the doctor recently and was told that her cholesterol level was high.

Unfortunately, I can’t really make sense of what her results actually mean, so I’m hoping someone out here can help me out.

This is exactly what it says on the results sheet she was given:

NAME – VALUE – REFERENCE – RANGE

CHOLESTEROL, TOTAL – 213 H – 125-200 mg/dL
HDL CHOLESTEROL – 57 – >=46 mg/dL
CHOLESTEROL/HDL RATIO – 3.7 – < = 5.0
LDL, CHOL, CALCULATED – 138 H – <130 md/dL

TRIGLYCERIDES – 89 – <150 mg/dL

What exactly do these numbers mean?

What's the preferred range?

Is she in any ‘serious’ danger with these current numbers?

What’s a good way for her to get rid of the ‘badcholesterol, and increase her ‘good’ cholesterol?

Are those ‘Cholesterol Lowering Supplements’ any good?

Any and all help is appreciated.

(Yes, I posted this question before, but nobody gave me an answer).

admin answers:

The way I looked at these numbers I don’t see how in the world the doctor could tell her it is high. My total cholesterol before they put me on Lipitor was 300 and now is down to 150. For her age, your mom has good cholesterol, she just needs to make sure the numbers do not climb up and she can do that by eating healthy and exercising and getting good night rest. Regarding cholesterol reducing drugs, they are statins and it is suppose to prevent strokes and heart attacks, I don’t know if there is a ratio to this or not. I am also on aspirin regiment of 81 mg (baby aspirin) per day and this was prescribed to me in order for my blood not be sticking.

Steven asks…

What range is good cholesterol?

I just donated blood for the first time and my total cholesterol was 195. I am only 30. Is this good or bad??

admin answers:

There are 3 numbers to concentrate on when measuring cholesterol.

You need to look at the total overal number, th HDL (good cholesterol) number and the LDL (bad cholesterol number).

Visit http://www.realhomeremedies.com and click on the high cholesterol link on the left. You’ll find a chart that tells you what numbers you want and what numbers are bad.
